Does Google Offer CPM Ads?

Google CPM Ads

The cost per impression (CPM) is quoted for 1,000 ad impressions, meaning that advertisers pay the stated amount for the ad to be displayed 1,000 times across Google's services. Google does not display these ads in search results, but they can appear on Google's Display Network. The Network includes Google properties such as YouTube, Google Maps and Gmail, as well as numerous partner websites and AdSense users.

Creating Google CPM Ads

Anyone can sign up for a Google AdWords account and use it to create CPM ads. After signing into your account, create a new ad campaign and select 'Display Network' as the only network in the Networks and Devices section. Make sure the search network is disabled. Enable the advanced options in the Bidding and Budget settings, and choose the CPM rate option.

Monitoring Google CPM Ads

Google provides tools to help you monitor your ad campaigns and maximize their efficiency. Google tracks how often your ad is displayed and clicked, and it can track how often clicks translate into purchases or other desired actions, which are called conversions. Google displays that information on your AdWords dashboard. You can use the data to see how the amount you bid for your CPM ads and other factors impact where and how often your ads are displayed, allowing you to make improvements to the ads as needed.

Competing With Google CPC Ads

Google also allows advertisers to pay only when ads are clicked on. These CPC ads compete with CPM ads to appear in Google's services. Based on the number of times a CPC ad was displayed and clicked on, Google calculates an effective CPM rate for it. When two ads are competing for the same space, Google displays the most expensive ad. Because CPM ads often take the place of multiple CPC ads, CPM ads must beat the value of all the CPC ads that would have appeared for Google to display them.
