About Google AdSense
Function
Google AdSense is a system developed by Google that connects users with relevant advertising via contextually targeted ads. When advertisers want to advertise with Google, they open an AdWords account and choose relevant keywords to target. Webmaster can set up AdSense accounts to display advertisements on their websites. Google then scans the content of the websites and automatically displays relevant ads.
Features
The main feature of AdSense is the opportunity it provides for all parties involved to profit. Google makes money when advertisers pay for ads, advertisers make money by attracting targeted traffic and webmasters make money when visitors to their websites click on ads. The amount that advertisers must pay to target certain keywords is known as the cost per click (CPC). The higher the CPC value of a keyword, the more webmasters make when someone clicks a corresponding ad on their webpages.
Effects
AdSense provides an efficient framework for advertising on the Internet. It has also been used heavily by Internet marketers as a means on generating online revenue. The only major negative effect associated with AdSense is the practice of click fraud. Click fraud is an unethical, and in some cases, illegal tactic in which a person or program imitates a legitimate user and clicks ads. Google actively polices the AdSense program to detect and eliminate click fraud.
Considerations
Click fraud is illegal, so webmasters must be careful not to click the ads on their websites. Webmasters who want to legitimately make money through AdSense should consider the CPC and search volume of keywords that are relevant to their websites. It's important to target keywords that have decent traffic and CPC values to make money. Also, webmasters should not use AdSense indiscriminately. If a webmaster uses AdSense on a site that does not have a clear focus, it becomes more difficult to display targeted ads, which may lead to low click-through rates. If this is the case, a webmaster is likely to be smart-priced, meaning he will be paid less for ad clicks.
Benefits
Their are two main benefits to AdSense. First, advertisers are able to spend money efficiently through pay-per-click (PPC) advertising and reach targeted traffic. Second, webmasters have an extremely easy way to automatically monetize any website. AdSense is especially beneficial on a website that doesn't sell anything because it allows the webmaster to generate revenue based solely on content.
