Does Tumblr Allow Advertising?
Terms of Service
There's no statement in Tumblr's terms of service that prohibits ads, unless you're using ads to spread malware, inserting ads on other user's blogs or creating your blog exclusively to generate ad-based income. As long as you aren't aren't using your Tumblr blog to deceive, placing an ad or two on your personal blog is acceptable.
Advertising on Your Blog
Any sort of advertisement is allowed on your blog, so long as it doesn't violate Tumblr's content terms. The type of content not allowed includes hate speech, harm to minors, promotion of self-harm and gory content. If you're just getting started, you might consider using the Google AdSense service to include ads on your blog. How-to Geek offers a tutorial on how to include advertising with AdSense on your Tumblr blog (link in Resources).
Advertisements in Posts
While you can certainly use your posts to promote your own products, inserting ads into posts is not allowed. Tumblr's terms of use prohibits the use of code in posts that inserts unwanted ads on people's posts. Tumblr's primary form of sharing is reblogging posts. If you insert an ad in your posts, then anyone who shares that post will end up with the ad on their blog as well. As such, users are less likely to share your posts, should you decide to ignore to terms of use and insert ads into your content.
Advertising on Tumblr
If you're interested in advertising your own content on Tumblr, highlighted posts are a good place to start. Highlighted posts cost a dollar and make your post more prominent on the dashboard by adding a sticker. Blogs that pay to be seen on the Tumblr Spotlight are generally corporate-run blogs. For instance, as part of the promotion for The Hunger Games film, Lionsgate paid to have one of its blogs promoted on Tumblr Spotlight.

The Web offers a variety of contextual ad programs that automatically show dynamic advertisements targeted at your website’s niche. Popular programs include AdSense, Chitika and ADBrite. After you sign up, implement the designated code provided by the program through your blog’s general settings or HTML editor, then allow for compliant ads to populate.

Programs such as LinkShare.com and CommissionJunction.com are prominent examples, allowing you to earn from hundreds of niche products and services. Select from the promotional banners typically available and insert it into your blog. Each sale successfully earns you a specified amount of money.
CPA Offers
Cost per Action, or CPA, is similar to affiliate marketing models; however, you receive payment for completing a task for companies and advertisers. These may include having users provide their contact information to receive future offers, as well as downloading a program to their computer. Much like other promotional methods, select the offer you wish to advertise on your blog through hyperlinks or through banner ads as provided by the advertiser.
Products and Services
If your blog receives a steady amount of traffic, sell your own products or services to loyal visitors. Establish a trusted relationship and offer any particular gig such as writing services, Web design or photo editing. Provide examples of your work to impress potential customers or approach other tactics such as one-time free services to new clients.
Blog Networks
Join paid blog networks and earn money by writing for fellow bloggers or promoting their content on your blog. Your job generally consists of writing about any particular topic based on the advertiser’s criteria. If the post is accepted, you are subsequently paid a specified amount. Prominent blog networks include PayPerPost.com, Blogsvertise.com and SponsoredReviews.com.
Donations
If you consistently provide valuable information to your readers, consider adding a way to receive donations from users. Many bloggers practice this method successfully, as people generally appreciate the information you provide to loyal readers free of charge. How to Install a WordPress Ad Code
1. Create one or more ad graphics, measuring 125 pixels wide by 125 pixels in height. Use a graphic design software application to create this artwork. Save these ads in a high resolution such as 600 dpi and in a .jpeg or .gif file form. Save them to your hard drive with short but clearly identifiable labels such as 'jonesad' or 'bakeryad.'
2. Open your FTP program and connect with the remote server containing your WordPress blog files. Navigate to your root directory or create new a file folder where you want to store your ad art images. Load all your ad art images to this file using your FTP tools.
3. Download the WP125 plug-in or a theme or widget that creates or features 125x125 ads. Free ad widgets are available on several widget websites, including widgetbox.com. WordPress design studios like Press75.com offer several themes for sale that include ads. The WP125 plug-in is free. Download the plug-in, theme or code file to your hard drive and extract the files to a folder on the drive.
4. Navigate to the appropriate folder on your WordPress server using your FTP program. If you are installing the WP125 plug-in, place the files in the 'wp-content/plugins' folder. If you are installing a theme, place the files in the 'wp-content/themes' folder. If you are using an ad widget however, do not load this onto your server; load it directly into the Widget area on your WordPress dashboard.
5. Open your blog dashboard. If you loaded the plug-in, navigate to 'Appearance/plugins' and find the new WP125 plug-in and click on 'Activate' to install it. If you loaded a theme, navigate to 'Appearance/themes,' find the new theme, and click on 'Activate' to launch it. If you are using a widget, navigate to 'Appearance/Widgets.' Create a new widget box by dragging a 'Text' widget from the 'Available Widgets' over to your widget sidebar. Open the widget box and paste the widget ad code into the box.
6. Configure the plug-in, theme or widget so the code 'points' to the location of the ad art images you've stored on your server. Any of the three options will provide you with this ability to 'point' the code so it knows where to find the corresponding art. Type in the URL of the art location, such as 'http://myblog.com/ads/bakeryad.jpeg.' Save the changes.
7. Set up the WP125 plug-in with some further instructions and refinements. You can schedule several different ads to 'play' in the ad box at different times. You can also place a timer on ads so they will stop showing on the page after a certain date. This plugin will also allow you to use double-width ads, 250 pixels x 125 pixels, without further special modifications to the code or the page.

3. Sign up for a pay-per-post (PPP) advertising site. PPP sites give you topics to write about and then pay you to write a post on your blog about the specific topic. Google AdSense Money Making Optimization Tips
Create an Appealing Ad
All ads are not created equal. You can easily make your ad more attractive to visitors by focusing on aspects such as shape and color. AdSense has identified the most effective formats to be the 336 x 280 large rectangle, 300 x 250 medium rectangle, and 160 x 600 wide skyscraper. As for color, select palettes that fit naturally with your site. For example, if your background is blue and your text is white, use shades of those colors to create your ads. Visitors are put off by ads that are jarring or too garish.
On the other hand, you don't want to create an ad that will get lost in the sauce. To keep things fresh, design multiple palettes and rotate them. Or move your ads around the page from time to time. Also consider using image ads. Pictures are more enticing than plain old text and may be more effective at attracting visitors.
Place Your Ad Wisely
When it comes to where to slot your ad, the goal is to select a prominent location without intruding on your content. This means keeping your ad in the margins but still close to the text.If you are placing more than one ad on a page, make sure that the ad with the best placement is the one that shows up first in your HTML code. This way, your best spot is given to the best-performing ad at auction and will generate the most revenue for you.
Reduce Your Filter List
Filtering is a great way to keep out ads that you don't want to appear on your site, but perhaps your filter list is too long, decreasing the variety of ads that appear and the potential earnings that more ads might bring.Try removing some URLs from your filter list to see if this has a positive impact on your revenue without negatively impacting your site. You can always put those URLs back on. You may also want to try filtering exact destination URLs instead of their top-level domains.
Employ a Search Box
AdSense is not just about ads--you can also place a Google search box on your site, which many of your visitors may find useful. And you'll benefit from their searches by earning money from their clicks on ads that appear on the results pages of those searches. It's something different from a regular old ad, and visitors will appreciate the functionality of such an addition.

How to Buy Local Search Keyword Domains
Finding Local Keywords
Researching local keywords is the same as researching any keywords. The Google AdWords keyword tool works well, and is a great place to start. Think up some keyword phrases relevant to your business and input them in the 'word or phrase' box, one per line, but also add your locality's name to each. For example, 'Web Designer' becomes 'Chicago, IL Web Designer.' When ready, click 'search' to get a generated list of possible keyword phrases.
Picking Your Keywords
Google AdWords shows information on keywords such as monthly search numbers and the level of competition. The idea is to pick a keyword with a high number of local searches and a comparatively low level of competition. Advertising with less competitive keywords costs less and is more likely to get your page to the top.
Getting the Domain Name
After picking a few good phrases, head over to a domain registration site and start searching for available domain names. If your locality is in a country other than the United States, use your country's Top-Level Domain (TLD) for the best results. A dot com, on the other hand, does not guarantee more traffic over other TLDs like dot net or dot org. If none of your keywords are available as a domain name on dot com, try one of the others.

Google Adsense CPC Vs. CPM
CPM
CPM is to the cost that an AdWords user pays every time their ad is viewed 1,000 times. The 'M' in CPM refers to the Roman symbol for this number. When you place CPM ads on your pages you receive a portion of the fee paid by the AdWords member. You can think of this fee as payment for your Internet real estate. CPM advertisements are usually large banners and may take up a lot of your header or footer space.
CPC
CPC, or 'Cost Per Click' is a type of advertisement that you can place on your site for which you will be paid a certain amount every time someone clicks on it. These advertisements are usually text-based and you will most likely place them between blocks of text on your page. Advertisers bid on ad position with CPC ads, competing for the most heavily trafficked sites. You can benefit from this if you have a popular site with high quality content.
Similarities
You can successfully monetize your content with either ad type. Like the CPC model, CPM ads are targeted to your primary keywords and should be highly relevant to your site's content. This type of targeting is what makes either ad type potentially profitable. If you have a choice on whether or not to place a CPM ad or a CPC ad in a given ad block, you will likely not see much difference in terms of overall performance unless your site gains a lot of daily visitors.
Differences
For every similarity between the two ad types, you will find a more significant difference. For instance, CPM ads are generally larger than CPC ads and generally employ images and Flash to catch a visitor's attention. In contrast, CPC ads are usually small and text-based. CPM ads are more suited to your most visible ad slots, generally the header. They are also usually more profitable than CPC ads on sites like heavily trafficked forums. This is because a user doesn't have to interact with them for you to earn a profit, and forum users generally come back again and again. CPC advertisements tend to earn best in the sidebar or in the website copy.

How to Make Money Online Without Investing
1. Create a website, online comic, or blog based on your interests. If you're going to be creating a website, make sure that it is one that you will be able to update at least slightly every 1-2 months. If you'll be creating an online comic or blog, you should be sure to update at least every 2-3 days if you don't update daily.
2. Create a Google AdSense account or an online advertising account with another major advertising broker. You might also consider signing up with affiliate marketing accounts with sites like Amazon which can be used to supplement the AdSense account without violating Google's rules about using other targeted advertising.
3. Optimize your website or blog posts using keywords that accent your theme scattered throughout the text that appears on the page. Try to make these keywords appear as natural in their context as possible and don't simply group a large number of unrelated keywords together; this can actually damage your Google page rankings and possibly get your AdSense account penalized or banned.
4. Start placing links to other websites on your site or blog, and try to establish links from other sites that point back to yours. This will help people to find your website or blog, and will also improve your search engine rankings so that even more visitors will be able to find your site and click on the ads that are placed there.
5. Keep updating your website or blog regularly, and keep an eye on your AdSense account in order to track how many hits and views your ads are getting.

How to Make Money Using Online Advertising
Host Affiliate Advertising
An easy way to begin pulling income from online advertising is to sign up for an affiliate advertising account. You allow the affiliate to place ads on your blog or website and earn money for every click-through. Major players in the affiliate ad business are LinkShare, Google Adsense and Commission Junction, as of publication. The ads that appear are tailored to match the theme of your site. You add to your earnings for each click on the ads you host. Users choose the size and quantity of ads that appear on their sites. Sites that post new material on a frequent basis are able to build a large audience and garner more income from affiliate advertising.
Facebook and Social Media
Advertising on Facebook and other social-media outlets provides opportunities for businesses of all sizes. Advertisers can reach a targeted audience for as little as $5 per day, as of publication. Ads on these sites can help to extend your existing marketing strategies, such as adding email subscribers to your blog posts or simply to drive traffic to your website. Carter recommends combining Facebook ads with setting up a Facebook page for your business. One ad strategy is to send potential clients to your business Facebook page to click on 'like.' A 'like' notice appears on potential clients' Facebook home-page feeds where their 'friends' can see it. Social-media sites Twitter and Linkedin offer similar advertising programs.
Microsoft adCenter and Google Adwords
Microsoft adCenter and Google Adwords are the big two of online advertising, as of publication. Google has the bigger market share at about 65 percent, according to search-engine expert Scott Spjut. Users create ads focused on selling their products or services, and select keywords to determine which websites or searches will show their ads. They target potential customers by location and set a maximum price they are willing to pay for each click, as well as a daily maximum budget for their ad campaign. Your ad appears in search results and on websites selected by your keywords and target location. Each click on your ad brings a potential customer to your site or blog, where you sell directly to them with a call to action. Advertisers track the results of their ads and campaigns, and make adjustments in budgets and keywords to maximize results.
Free Online Advertising
Network with colleagues and arrange to trade links and advertising on each others' websites or blogs. Create a news release about newsworthy items such as a new product release. Write an article about your area of expertise and submit it to sites that cover your industry. Arrange for a link to your website and your email to appear along with the articles and news releases. Potential customers can click through to your site or email you, creating an opportunity to add a client.

Drive traffic to your pages by maintaining an active online presence, adding new poetry to your blog or website on a regular basis and promoting your work on social networking sites.
2. Solicit website advertising from local businesses for a flat fee. Gain a local following by participating in spoken word events and poetry jams. Promote your site by gathering names for an email list, sending out regular newsletters and tracking the number of visits to your site. Once you can demonstrate your online poetry has an audience, approach local businesses such as small bookstores to pay a monthly fee to have an ad on your site.
3. Publish pieces of poetry on revenue-share websites. These sites include Hubpages and Squidoo, which pay writers a portion of the revenue earned from each post. Depending on which revenue-sharing site you choose, you may have to place your poetry within the context of an article or otherwise tailor your work to the demands of the platform.
4. Submit your poetry to online magazines, also called zines. If your work is accepted for publication you may receive payment depending on the editorial policy of each zine. Many zines also run poetry and fiction contests, which may require an entry fee but offer a sizable prize to the winning entry.
5. Submit your poetry electronically for publication in print magazines and journals. Your poetry may not end up online through this method, but if it ends up in print you'll have used your online savvy to reach the publishers willing to pay you for your product.

Google AdSense Help
Getting Started
If you have your own website or blog, you can apply for a Google AdSense account. It may take a few days for your application to be processed. Once approved, you can select content ads, which contain image or text ads, or link ads for your website. You can customize the size, shape and color schemes for your ads. Once you have configured an ad, Google will provide you with the code to copy and paste into your website. The content of the ad will change, depending on the ads Google has available. Ads are matched to each web page based on the content on the page so that ads will be as appropriate as possible for each page. At the time of publication, Google pays publishers 68 percent of what the advertiser pays for content ads.
Other Types of Ads
Besides content ads, you can also select search ads for your website. If a visitor to your website uses the the search feature in the ad on your website, and if they then click on an AdSense link, you will get 51 percent of the ad revenue generated. AdSense for mobile content allows you to place content ads on websites configured for mobile devices. AdSense for mobile applications lets you put ads on mobile apps. There are also AdSense programs for RSS feeds, video and parked domains.
Understanding Policies
Google has extensive policies for website publishers using AdSense. Violation of any part of these policies can result in a lifetime ban from the service. For example, you cannot click on the ads on your own website, or encourage visitors to click on ads. You are not permitted to use AdSense on webpages containing objectionable content, or linking to such content. This includes pornographic or violent content, content promoting illegal activities or racial intolerance, and the sales of drugs, tobacco or alcohol. AdSense also requires that your website includes a detailed privacy and disclosure policy.
Maximizing Revenue
As a Web publisher there are many things you can do to maximize your revenue from Google AdSense. Google provides you with reports, updated nearly in real-time, to show your revenue, as well as the number of page visits and clicks your ads receive. You can use different ad channels to get separate reports for different types of ads. This allows you to experiment with different ad placements, colors and formats, to see which ads do best on your website. Of course, getting more visitors to your website will increase the chances of getting clicks on your ads. Writing content that is in higher demand for the best paying ads will also increase your revenue each time an ad is clicked.

Can I Link More Than One YouTube Account to AdSense?
Requirements
Although being able to participate in YouTube's partner program is never guaranteed, there are a few basic requirements for entry into the program. Specifically, videos on your channel must consist of original, high-quality and non-copyrighted content. If you repost content someone else has created -- particularly if the content is duplicated from someone else's channel -- the prospect of your channel being eligible is dim.

After you agree to the terms and conditions, you can monetize individual videos, which places ads on them and enables you begin earning revenue from them.
Application
If YouTube hasn't yet invited you to participate in it partner program but you believe your channel and its videos meet YouTube's eligibility requirements, you may apply to become a member of the program. To access the application, log in to your YouTube account and click the 'Creators and Partners' link at the bottom of the screen.
Linking to AdSense
Once you have agreed to the terms of service for YouTube's partner program, YouTube asks you to which AdSense account you would like to transmit your ad share earnings. How to Put Keywords Into Google Ads With AdWords
1. Set up an account with Google AdWords. You will need a Google ID, which can be the same as your ID for other Google services such as Gmail or Adsense. Once you open your account, you will be given the opportunity to enter payment information and set up your ad campaign.
2. Choose the keywords that you want to use for your ad campaign. You can use the keyword tool provided by Google to brainstorm for keywords. When you type in a word, it will give you a list of related keywords that you can use for your ad campaign. Choose from the list of available keywords for your campaign. Your ad can be triggered when someone types in one of these keywords.
3. Write an ad for your campaign based on the keywords you selected. You should include one or two keywords in the headline and the description for your ad. When potential customers are searching for a particular word or phrase in Google, they will be more likely to click on your ad if one of the keywords they are searching for appears in your ad. Think about what the customer would actually be looking for and try to convey this in the ad you write. Avoid errors in grammar and punctuation as this can make your ad look unprofessional. You must limit the ad to 25 characters for the title, 70 characters for the ad text and 35 characters for the displayed URL.
4. Monitor the performance of your ads to see if they are doing well. One way to gauge the success of your ads is to look at the click-through rate. This represents a percentage of how many people are clicking on your ad. For example, if 100 people see your ad and 5 click on it, your click-through rate is 5 percent. When you have a high click-through rate, it improves your ad position with Google and you will not have to pay as much for each click.

About Google AdSense
Function
Google AdSense is a system developed by Google that connects users with relevant advertising via contextually targeted ads. When advertisers want to advertise with Google, they open an AdWords account and choose relevant keywords to target. Webmaster can set up AdSense accounts to display advertisements on their websites. Google then scans the content of the websites and automatically displays relevant ads.
Features
The main feature of AdSense is the opportunity it provides for all parties involved to profit. Google makes money when advertisers pay for ads, advertisers make money by attracting targeted traffic and webmasters make money when visitors to their websites click on ads. The amount that advertisers must pay to target certain keywords is known as the cost per click (CPC). The higher the CPC value of a keyword, the more webmasters make when someone clicks a corresponding ad on their webpages.
Effects
AdSense provides an efficient framework for advertising on the Internet. It has also been used heavily by Internet marketers as a means on generating online revenue. The only major negative effect associated with AdSense is the practice of click fraud. Click fraud is an unethical, and in some cases, illegal tactic in which a person or program imitates a legitimate user and clicks ads. Google actively polices the AdSense program to detect and eliminate click fraud.
Considerations
Click fraud is illegal, so webmasters must be careful not to click the ads on their websites. Webmasters who want to legitimately make money through AdSense should consider the CPC and search volume of keywords that are relevant to their websites. It's important to target keywords that have decent traffic and CPC values to make money. Also, webmasters should not use AdSense indiscriminately. If a webmaster uses AdSense on a site that does not have a clear focus, it becomes more difficult to display targeted ads, which may lead to low click-through rates. If this is the case, a webmaster is likely to be smart-priced, meaning he will be paid less for ad clicks.
Benefits
Their are two main benefits to AdSense. First, advertisers are able to spend money efficiently through pay-per-click (PPC) advertising and reach targeted traffic. Second, webmasters have an extremely easy way to automatically monetize any website. AdSense is especially beneficial on a website that doesn't sell anything because it allows the webmaster to generate revenue based solely on content.
How to Start a Blog to Make Money
1. Use a free blogging platform such as Blogger, or establish a blog on your own website with a top-level domain name. To make money, you can use either, but the latter choice is more professional. If you intend to transform your blog into an entire internet business, purchasing a domain name and professional website hosting is recommended.
2. Make the blog look good. Starting a blog to make money requires some degree of professionalism. Search for quality, attractive blog templates and choose the one that you like the most. Three column designs will leave more room for advertisements.
3. Place contextual advertising, such as Google Adsense, on the blog, and increase traffic to attract more clicks. This is completely passive income and should be a part of every blog business.
4. Sell advertising to other blog owners and webmasters. A simple 'Place Your Link Here for...' button will attract some easy money. However, you can also join online programs that match blogs with advertisers and handle the finances for you. Places like PayPerPost, Smorty, and Blogitive offer opportunities to make money with your blog by writing posts with link backs to advertiser's websites.
5. Market the blog to get visitors. Starting a blog to make money requires little financial expenditure, and advertising can be inexpensive, or even free, as well. Explore the possibilities of article marketing, blogrolling, pay to click advertising, adding links to forum posts and other blog's comment sections. The more links you spread around the internet, the greater the chance of an interested person finding your blog and creating profit for you. Starting a blog to make money only works if you follow up with continued effort.

3.
If you choose to use the second option, you must find ways to drive as much traffic to your AdSense website as possible. The reason for this is very simple, the more people you have visiting your website will simply mean that the more people will be clicking on relevant ads, which will in turn, produce more online profit for you. Driving traffic to your website will take a lot of work, which will involve building back links to your website and ranking high in search engines in order to produce a maximum profit. How to Find a High
1. **Understand How to Monetize With Online Ads**If you have a website or blog, you can earn money from your site with online ads ('Monetize it', as the web gurus put it. It's an ugly word, but I've grudgingly come to accept it.), You place advertisements on your web or blog pages, and get paid every time someone clicks on an ad (some ads also payout according to the number of views, but pay-per-click ads are much more common). Some ads are text, others are static images, and some are annoying little dancing people that move and have sound. You can see ads almost anywhere you look on the internet, including right here at eHow. The most well-known provider of ads is the Google Adsense program. But there are other providers as well.
2.
**Check Out Adbrite**Adbrite is one of the better known alternatives to Adsense, and is considered to be a high-paying option, offering as much as 75% of the ad revenue generated (in other words, you keep 75% of the ad income, Adbrite gets the other 25%). They offer a wide variety of formats in both text and image ads.Adbrite also offers what are known as 'inline' ads, an option not available through Adsense. These are the double-underline words in your page text. Mousing over the words causes a related ad to open up.
3.
**Look Into Bidvertiser**Bidvertiser is another option for placing ads on your website or blog. They have a reputation for unusually versatile tools to help users design the best format ads for their sites, and to incorporate ads in a way to maximize advertising earnings. I haven't used the Bidvertiser tools myself, but I hear they're pretty nifty.
4.
**Explore Clicksor**I hear lots of good reports from more and more of my colleagues regarding Clicksor. Apparently, the bidding is high (that is, the ads have a large payout), Clicksor pays a generous percentage to publishers (that would be you!), and there is a lot of versatility in how and where ads can be displayed. Clicksor also has a good reputation as far as doing an excellent job in placing context-relevant ads on your site.

(reference 1)
2. Look for domains to purchase through domain name resellers if you're not exactly sure which name you want. Resellers like BuyDomains.com list domain names that are for sale. (reference 2)
3. Check out the background of the domain. To make sure the domain has a clean record and hasn't been involved in any questionable or even illegal activity, you should check it out. Many free tools are available to help with this, including services by Archive.org and AdSense Sandbox. (reference 2)

What Is a Turnkey Website?
Function
A turnkey website is a completely functioning website with everything needed to run a website already completely functional. This includes important items such as domain names, website hosting, scripts and shopping cart systems.
Price
Turnkey websites can cost as low as a few hundred dollars or easily reach into the many thousands, depending on the complexity and domain name recognition. The average cost is less than a thousand dollars and includes one or more months of hosting. After this time, you will have to pay for hosting.
Popularity
Turnkey websites are growing in popularity because the Internet is becoming far more commercial and you have many people who wish to work from home. A turnkey website is a simple and fast way to start a home-based business.
Ease of Use
Turnkey websites by definition are easy to use in the beginning. To continue to update the site and make changes, a moderate level of technical web editing skills are required by either the owner or someone who is hired for the job.
Resale
Turnkey websites are frequently sold by companies who turn out dozens or hundreds of sites. They can do this because they have the design and web knowledge to build a site quickly and have access to web templates that are already designed and because they can resell hosting at a profit after the website is bought.
