How to Make Money Online for Kids
1. Let kids sell items on eBay. The rules of the site allow an adult with an account in good standing to let children sell through the site as long as their activities are supervised. Kids can sell anything that is allowed for sale by the Website. A few ideas for kids' sales are selling their outgrown clothes and shoes, old toys they no longer play with, craft items they've made, and cheap items that they buy at the thrift store in order to resell.
2. Give kids a digital camera. Let them sell their digital photos. Sites like Stock Exchange let all customers list their photos for sale through the Website. It then pays the photographer a portion for each sale. The photos can be of household items, nature items or anything else that someone might want to buy to use on their Website or for their commercial projects. Some sites will require that the adult have the account. However, as long as the parent supervises the account, kids can make money from the photographs.
3. Set up a blog that will allow the child to make money. A kid can post his own blog posts on his own blog which is then monetized by placing ads on the site. Affiliate ads can be placed as banner ads or as links in the text of the blog posts. Readers click on the links, and a commission is earned for the blogger if the reader then buys an item.
4. Have kids make crafts that can be sold on Etsy. The site is a third-party retail Website that sells online hand-made crafts. The sales may have to be supervised by an adult account holder, but there are many money-making possibilities with the site. Kids love to make things, and Etsy has a growing customer base of people who love hand-made items.
5. Help kids to create their own Websites. The Websites can then be monetized with ads that kids can negotiate on their own. This would require kids to contact Websites and ask the site to advertise. Ad networks that supply paid ads require people to be 18 to sign up. That makes the site-to-site negotiation necessary. Kids can also have a donation button on their Website that allows people to donate to a PayPal account that is held in a parent's name.
6. Place AdSense ads on a Website or blog using a parent's account. AdSense account holders must be 18, but kids are allowed to use their parents' AdSense codes on their own Websites. Ashley Qualls, the owner of Whateverlife, started the Website at the age of 14, using her parent's AdSense account to make money from the Website. She makes MySpace layouts and gives them away for free through the Website. She earns about $70,000 per month from the Website through AdSense and other ad revenue.
How to Start a Blog Make Money Online in 10 Easy Steps
1. Choose a subject that you're passionate about. The most important thing to know about blogging is that you have to blog about something you care about. The subject should be something that intrigues you, motivates you, or interests you. You will be researching, reading, and writing about this topic in depth and, if you don't care about the subject area, it will be difficult to keep writing. The subject can vague, like 'health', or specific, like 'diabetes.' Don't choose such a narrow topic that you can't write extensively on it, like 'Diabetes doctors in Small Town, North Dakota.'
2. Choose a platform on which to host your blog. The most popular free sites include blogger.com and wordpress.org. If you would like to have your own independent domain name (e.g. http://yourdomainname.com as opposed to http://yourdomainname.blogger.com), this will cost money from the beginning of the project.
3. Set up your blog. Once you've choose a platform, such as blogger.com, you will need a name for your blog, a template, and a tagline. The name and tagline should be descriptive so that someone coming to your blog for the first time will know what your blog is about.
4. Read other established bloggers in your topic area. To figure out what you should write about, it helps to see what others are also writing about. Moreover, by become a regular reader of bloggers in your topic area so that you can stay aware of new or interesting ideas and have a community (see step 9). Browse through blog directories like Technorati.com to find similar bloggers.
5. Write 10 blog posts before posting any content. To ensure that you've chosen a topic that you are comfortable blogging about and to create a first solid set of content, it helps to have prewritten 10 posts before fully launching your new blog.
6. Sign up for ad and affiliate networks that will earn you money. Google Adsense and Amazon.com are very common ways to make money. Commission Junction and Linkshare are also good affiliate networks that give you a share of revenue if you promote and sell certain products.
7. Publish content on a regular basis. Start publishing your content on a regular schedule such as daily, 5-days per week, or once a week. The more content you produce, the higher the chance that you will make money.
8. Spread the word. Email your friends and family to let them know about your new blog. These people will become some of your biggest fans and regular readers.
9. Become part of the blogging community by linking to others and commenting on other blogs. In order to increase traffic to your new blog, you should link to other bloggers' posts from within your own posts, comment on other bloggers' sites, and request to be put on other bloggers' blogrolls. (A blogroll is a list of other bloggers that you like.) It also helps to submit your posts to 'blog carnivals,' as these will bring in links and additional readers to your site.
10. Continue to write and wait. It generally takes a few weeks to start drawing regular readers and ad revenue. After a few weeks, you can try putting your ads on different places on your website to see if they bring more clicks.
How to Build a Commercial Web Site
1. Determine the purpose for your commercial website. Individuals often build a commercial website for two reasons: to promote their company or small business and its services/products, or to create a new revenue stream and generate an online income. The former will often highlight the small business and feature product pages and methods in which the visitor can purchase items. The latter will typically center on content and information supported by advertisements. Both commercial website types are similar in their creation, though the actual design for the website may differ slightly.
2. Register for a web hosting account. Choose a professional web host plan that can handle a large amount of visitors and offers robust services and features that allow you to track visitors and website traffic. Various service providers offer economical hosting plans that serve the needs of commercial websites. Examples include GoDaddy and 1&1 (links in the Resources section).
3. Connect your FTP client with your web host account. You will need your domain name (provided with your hosting plan) and password to sync your FTP client with the online server. An FTP client allows you to manage your online files and upload new site files as you build your commercial website.
4. Create a new commercial web page. You may write the HTML code by hand if you are experienced with basic HTML, using a web design program such as Adobe Dreamweaver or a basic text editing utility. Alternatively, use an automated commercial website generator included with most website hosting plans (e.g., 1&1 provides tutorials and an automated program to help you create a professional website without knowing HTML code).
5. Upload the commercial website files to your website server using your FTP client.
6. Integrate affiliate marketing to make money online using your commercial website. Affiliate marketing works by giving you a small commission for selling a product or service. Various companies offer affiliate accounts to help you make money on the Internet by promoting their products. Choose a professional affiliate marketing program to avoid being scammed. Various reputable, online companies give independent publishers an opportunity to join their affiliate marketing. Examples include Amazon's Amazon Associates and Commission Junction (links in the Resources section). Insert your affiliate links into your commercial website to make money anytime a visitor buys the product or service.
7. Insert advertising, such as Google AdSense, into your commercial website. Google AdSense is one of the most popular third-party advertising programs. The advantage of using a third-party advertising program is that you do not have to manually find advertisers and manage their accounts. After inserting the Google AdSense code, Google serves relevant ads to your commercial website and pays you every time someone clicks on an ad.
8. Promote the commercial website you've built to gain more traffic and earn more money off of the affiliate marketing and advertising on your web pages. Build organic traffic by requesting links from other relevant commercial websites so that visitors have an increased chance of finding your page.
