Does Google AdSense Work?

How It Works

Google AdSense displays contextual ads on your page, the content and appearance of which you can control with filters and design elements. According to Google, you earn money by displaying AdSense ads on your pages and by visitors to your site clicking the ads.

AdSense Reports

AdSense offers a service called Reports, which allows you to see how much ad revenue you have generated and estimate how much you will earn. However, one of the downsides is that AdSense does not offer information about the actual share of ad revenue that you earned.

Threshholds and Payment

Google AdSense currently has two thresholds: In the United States, the company asks you for your tax information and payment preference when you've reached $10 in AdSense earnings and sends payment once you've reached $100 in AdSense earnings.

Optimization and Demos

To help you increase revenue, Google offers a page of optimization tips (see Resources below), which help you design and implement an individualized AdSense plan. Google also offers beginners a full page of demonstrations on how to work through the AdSense process (see Resources below).

Expectations

Earnings will vary widely based on traffic to the site on which you have installed AdSense. Unless you have a very high-traffic, popular website, you may never see a Google AdSense payment. Even if you do occasionally make money, you should not view it as a steady source of income. Nevertheless, AdSense does (under its Resources tab) keep track of its users' success stories--some of whom have found the service very profitable.

How to Start an Online Ebook Business

Planning an eBook

1. Use a mix of creativity and business smarts and create an eBook that people would want to read. Use keyword search tools to find out exactly what subjects people search for online.

2. Choose at least 20 subjects that are the most marketable and typically get at least 30,000 to 50,000 hits a day. Whittle the list to a few by using the criteria of uniqueness and whether the topics are saturated on the Internet.

3. Sign up for Google AdSense. Create a one-page website with a survey asking what people think of your eBook idea or what they may want to see. Google AdSense helps bring traffic to your survey site by placing ads on the page that pertain to your website topic. Eventually, you will use this to get visitors to your eBook site.

Creating the eBook

4. Study the data on your survey after just a few days and start to create your eBook using any word-processing program. Keep the book under 40 pages and on topic to keywords you researched earlier.

5. Hire a ghostwriter after writing a few of your own eBooks and selling them independently through eBay or your website. Once you start turning healthy profits, it is best to have other people do the writing. Then you can focus on the marketing aspects, which will take most of your time.

6. Look for bargain ghostwriters and general content producers through outsourcing sites such as RentACoder. You can advertise your eBook project there and get bids from freelance writers.

7. Request use of SEO, or search engine optimization, in your eBooks. This means your eBooks contain keywords that enable the books to place high on search engines such as Google.

Marketing

8. Start selling your eBooks on your website using Google AdSense. If you paid attention to trends and start offering multiple eBooks on a weekly basis, you could be selling many of these and turning in big profits. Website design can be simple.

9. Set up commerce on your website using PayPal so customers can buy and download your eBooks.

10. Market your eBooks through methods other than relying exclusively on SEO and AdSense. Use mass email marketing to certain groups you know would be interested.

11. Visit forums on the net that pertain to the subject of your eBook. Leave a link to your website in one of them and your site likely will receive visitors within days if not hours.

12. Find blogs on the net that write about the subjects of your eBooks. Ask the bloggers to review your eBook or start your own blog if you can find time to write regularly. Buy an ad on a blog that is not yours but relates to the topic of your eBook.

How to Get People to Advertise on Your Website

1. Fill your site with content that will attract visitors. This means that the content needs to be interesting or cutting edge. The more people that your site could potentially appeal to, the better your odds of convincing advertisers to purchase ad space on your site or racking up paid ad clicks through an affiliate program such as Google Adsense.

2. Attract traffic to your site. No one will know that your site exists unless you promote it. Promote your site through social networking sites. Send links to all your friends and family whenever you put up new content. Add a subscription feature to your blog that sends an email notification to subscribers whenever you create a new post.

3. Monitor your traffic and create a professional sales report. If your site is getting over 100,000 or more hits each day, you may be in a good position to send out a sales pitch to companies you believe might be interested in advertising on your site. The report that you send should include a description of the content that is contained on the site, the average number of visitors and monthly visitor totals for the past 6 months to a year, why you think that a specific company would benefit from placing an ad on your site and how much you would charge for the ad placement.

4. Try affiliate advertising. Google Adsense is a great example of this. With Adsense, a website owner creates an account with Google and agrees to allow Google to place ads in certain places on the site. Whenever a visitor clicks on one of the ads, the site owner will earn money. If you have a high volume of traffic coming to your site, this might be an excellent money-making solution for you. However, be careful not to clutter your site with too many ads--this could decrease overall traffic and scare away private advertisers.

How to Monetize a Website

1. Set up a Google Adsense account. After you have applied and been approved for an Adsense account, you can place ads on your website. When visitors click on your ads, you will earn revenue from Google (see Resources below).

2. Join an affiliate program with Commission Junction. Commission Junction has literally hundreds of companies that want affiliates to sell their products. All you have to do is place one of their banners on your website. If a visitor to your site clicks on the link and makes a purchase, you will get a commission (see Resources below).

3. Open a Paypal account. Paypal is an online payment processor where you can send and receive payments. This great tool will help you immensely whenever you'll need to pay or collect any money online (see Resources below).

4. Write an ebook and sell it on your site. An ebook is a digital product you read on your computer. If you are an expert or very knowledgeable about your hobby, you could write an ebook and sell it on your website through Paypal.

5. Create a Paypal donation button. If visitors come to your site and appreciate the information you are providing, they can click on the donation button and donate whatever amount of money they want (see Resources below).

How to Make Money Clicking Google Ads

Making Google Adsense work for you.

1. Creating or having a website is one thing of great importance when wanting to use Google Adsense for income. Don't just create any website however, make use of a theme you truly enjoy or are passionate about. Your chances of being successful with your ads depend on how passionate you are on your website. You can create a free website using Google's own tools: blogger.com or pages.google.com. Make sure your site has more than 5 pages. A large site, say of about 50-100+ pages has a greater chance of creating decent revenue than a smaller one.

2. Once your website is in place, you will want to sign up for Google Adsense. It's completely free and there is no obligation to stay if you are not satisfied. Adsense operates by matching up ads to the content that your website contains. Say for example your site is about small business. Ads will appear on your website that has small business startup, stock options, investing and others matching that criterion. Place your ads generously throughout your site; don't overcrowd a particular area or it may look unappealing. Google provides the code needed so that you are in control of how many ads to put on your site, where to put them and how to arrange them.

3. Generating traffic to your site is what makes Google Adsense profitable and consistent. How do you get more traffic to your site? Content; fresh and new content helps search engines find and categorize you therefore making you come out on different areas in the search engines. If you are looking to generate large amounts of income, you will probably want to update your content regularly.

4. Promoting your website will help gain more traffic and thus increase your chances of getting more clicks! Website promotion can also be free or you can use paid sources. Start by contacting family and friends to visit your site, submit your site to search engines; Google, Yahoo and others. Work a trade or make use of reciprocal links. To get reciprocal links, find another website with the same type of genre you have. Ask the webmaster if they would post a link on their website back to you, if you do the same for them. It helps with marketing and getting more exposure for your site.
