Alternatives to Google Adsense

AdBrite

AdBrite is one of the biggest AdSense competitors. As a website owner, you can manually approve the ads that appear on your site. As an advertiser, you can decide which sites host your ads.

Chitika

Unlike AdSense, which targets ads based on your website's content, Chitika targets ads based on the visitor's search keywords. Chitika ads are not visible to those who visit your site directly without the aid of a search engine.

Kontera

Kontera is an in-text advertiser. It works by highlighting specific keywords in your website's articles and linking those to relevant advertisers.

Bidvertiser

Geared toward small business websites, Bidvertiser offers a low payout minimum payout of $10 as of August 2009.

Clicksor

Similar to AdSense, Clicksor utilizes its technology to target ads based on your content. It offers different ad formats, including in-text, banner and pop-unders.

How to Earn Passive Income From a Blog

1. Get great content for your blog. You can write it yourself, get it from article marketing sites, pay for private label rights to posts or hire someone to write it for you. Great content will keep visitors coming to your site.

2. Open accounts with contextual advertising companies such as Adbrite, Google Adsense, Bidvertiser and others.

3. Choose the type of advertisement for your blog. Most advertisers allow a mixture of text and banner ads. Get the appropriate HTML or Javascript code and paste it into a text file.

4. Place advertisements in the appropriate places on your blog's template to begin earning passive residual income. Good locations include under the post title, at the head of the page and near the navigation menu.

5. Find some affiliate products to promote through your blog. These are available through organizations such as Clickbank and Commission Junction. Grab the affiliate code you will need.

6. Write a review of the affiliate products you have chosen, embedding your affiliate link in your blog post. Publicize the review through forum posts and comments on other blogs to bring traffic to your site. The more people that come to your site, the more passive residual income your blog will earn.

7. Repeat these steps often to create a passive income stream for your blog.

How to Check the Status of an AdSense Application

1. Log on to the Internet and check your email account for any email from 'Google' or 'Google AdSense' specifically. Also check your email's spam folder for any possible missed emails from Google that will give you an update on the status of your Google AdSense application. The email from Google Adsense will contain either a letter of acceptance as well as login instructions or a letter of denial along with the reason why.

2. Log in to Google AdSense (google.com/adsense) using the email address and password you used when you applied to see if you are registered within the system. If you cannot access your account, it does not mean you were automatically rejected --- it may take additional time to add your name into Google AdSense's system. If you can successfully access your account and land on the AdSense user dashboard, your account is active and ready for use.

3. Contact Google AdSense by accessing the official Google Adsense website (google.com/adsense) if you have waited longer than you were told when you initially applied. Although you may not receive a response immediately, Google may be able to direct you in a direction to find the status of your application individually.

How to Set Up a Profitable Website in 30 Days

1. Choose a niche topic. A niche is a narrow, specialized market. Choose a niche that you have a personal interest in, but that is also of interest to a large group of people.

2. Optimize your website for search engines. Search engine optimization helps your site rank higher in Google and other search engines, making it easier for people to find your website. Use keyword tools to help you choose keywords within your niche with low to moderate competition and high cost per clicks.

3. Purchase a keyword-rich domain name. You do this at a domain registrar, of which there are many. Shop around as prices and services vary. Buy a domain name that includes keywords related to your niche.

4. Set up web hosting. There are a variety of sites to host your website; check out a few and select the one that best suits your needs. Once hosting is set up, install an application that allows you to publish content to your blog such as WordPress, or Moveable Type.

5. Add Google Adsense. Sign up for it through your Google account. You get a unique publisher ID number to track the ads you add to your site. You decide the size, number and location of ads, and Google displays ads based on your site's content. When a visitor clicks on one, Google pays you a percentage of what the advertiser is paying to run the ad. The more visitors you have to your site and click on your ads, the more money you will make, allowing you to have a profitable website within 30 days.

6. Sign up to sell products from your website using affiliate links. Most online and many offline vendors have an affiliate program. When you sign up as an affiliate, you place a unique link on your site that when clicked will link back to the store's website. Whenever a purchase is made through your link, you get paid a percentage of the sale.
