How to Build a Money Making Information Website

1. Decide what you want your money-making information website to be about. Look for 'hot' and popular topics on such places as Yahoo Buzz and Google Trends for ideas. Make your website niche-specific, that is, writing information and blogging only about one or two ideas or themes.

2. Buy a domain and website hosting for your information website. Make your domain memorable --- something which will prompt people to visit your site multiple times. Choose only a basic hosting plan, as this is all you will need for an informational or blog-type website.

3. Set up your money-making website by installing a content management system such as WordPress, Joomla, or Drupal. A content management system (CMS) allows you to build your website without prior HTML knowledge or any coding skills. Many are open source, and free.

4. Look for a WordPress, Joomla, or Drupal theme to use for your site. A content management system 'theme' is a pre-designed template which can be installed with one-click to your money-making website. Choose a theme and upload its contents to your web hosting provider. Select this theme in your CMS control panel to install it on your site.

5. Hire a freelance graphic designer to create a unique header image or logo for your money-making website. A logo helps create a brand image, makes your site more attractive, and sets it apart from plain-looking websites. This logo helps establish the all-important 'brand' or identity for your site.

6. Start blogging or writing information on your website related to your chosen niche or topic. Add valuable, helpful information for visitors to your site. Upload images on your site to make your content stand out.

7. Monetize your website through web publisher's text advertisements. Sign up for Google AdSense, Yahoo Publisher Network, or BidVertiser. These money-making pay-per-click programs display blocks of text advertisements on your site. In return, you receive a small commission or payment ranging from a few cents to dollars for each of your website visitors that click these ads.

8. Display text-link advertisements to make money directly from the information or blogs you post on your website. Apply for a publisher's program such as LinkWorth, TNX, or Text-Link-Ads. As visitors click the text-linked ads, your information website earns a small amount of money.

9. Register as an affiliate on a website such as ClickBank.com, Commission Junction, or PayDotCom. These marketplaces contain products which you can promote as an 'affiliate' and receive commissions. Choose a product that would be helpful to your site visitors. Obtain your affiliate link--the special URL that tracks the number of purchases for which you'll receive commission payouts.

10. Write a helpful review of the affiliate program or product on your website. List the disadvantages and advantages of purchasing such a product. Include compelling information about why your site visitors should buy it. Make sure to include the special affiliate link which you obtained when you registered at one of the product marketplaces.

11. Continue blogging and writing information about the topics and areas within your niche. To make additional revenue, sell premium content, such as special videos, e-books, instructional courses, or other content that requires a one-time fee for access on your website.

Do All WordPress Themes Allow Plugins?

Administrative Plugins

The most common plugins are administrative. These expand the options available to the WordPress administrator, and include changes like integrating Google AdSense, optimizing the blog for search engines and tracking visitor statistics. Administrative plugins rarely require template integration. Typically, any interaction they have with the front-end of the website is handled entirely by the code.

Front-End Plugins

Front-end plugins alter the way the site is displayed to visitors or add extra options for display. For example, a front-end plugin can integrate a new JavaScript file to display a special image gallery or allow the user to switch theme colors or styles. This type of plugin may require template modification, but it is generally compatible with all themes.

Widgets

A WordPress widget is a plugin that displays a block of content. Widgets are selected and placed in the administrative menu and display on the front-end to the visitor. By default, WordPress includes widgets to display all categories, recent posts and comments, and a block of text, among others. Themes must be widget-ready or 'widgetized' to handle these plugins properly. Most new themes are widgetized by default, but older themes may need modification.

Functions

Although not truly a plugin, the functions.php theme file can house modifications that act as plugins. Since this file is typically coded at the same time as the theme by the developer, modification is rarely needed. However, if you add extra functionality for your theme in this file, you may need to edit other files to reflect the changes.

How to Make Money Using a Blog Step

1. Fill your blog with posts about popular or 'hot' topics that draw in visitors. Use attention-grabbing headlines and openers to entice people to read your blog. Find popular topics on places like Google Trends or Yahoo Buzz. Write blog posts regularly to avoid being seen as 'dead' or irrelevant.

2. Register your website blog with an advertiser network such as Google AdSense or Yahoo Publisher Network. These networks give blog publishers the opportunity to make money through pay-per-click (PPC) advertising campaigns. Blocks of text ads get displayed on your site and, when visitors click these ads, you get paid a small commission averaging anywhere from a few cents to a few dollars per click.

3. Copy the code from the pay-per-click (PPC) advertiser network with whom you've signed up. Paste the code into the HTML portion of your blog to begin displaying text ads.

4. Choose a product from ClickBank or another affiliate marketplace such as PayDotCom or Commission Junction. Register with the site or affiliate author to obtain a hoplink--a special link to track purchases from customers who you have referred.

5. Write a post on your blog promoting the affiliate product or program. Make your blog post as compelling and helpful to the reader as possible to encourage people to buy the product. Include your affiliate hoplink within your blog post so that visitors can purchase when ready.

6. Offer banner advertising spaces on your blog website. Make sure that these spaces are in prominent places, such as near the top or sidebars of the pages, so that people will want to advertise on your site. Make money by setting your own rates for advertisers either on a CPM (cost per thousand impressions) or flat-rate basis per week or month.

7. Sell premium content to your blog visitors. Allow a 'teaser' portion of your blog to be read for free, but require a special paid membership that allows unlimited access to your entire blog posts and extra content like videos.

8. Sign up with an in-text advertising program like Kontera, LinkWorth or Vibrant Media. These ad networks place sponsored advertisement links which are hyperlinked to individual words within your blog posts. Get your publisher's code and paste it into the appropriate HTML portion of your blog to begin making money with in-text advertisements.

9. Register for an autoresponder service such as Aweber or GetResponse. Create an autoresponder opt-in box using the services tools. Paste the code for the opt-in box within your blog website. Collect visitors' names and email addresses with the autoresponder box to gather a marketing list.

10. Send autoresponder email messages to the people on your marketing list. Within the marketing message, write about and promote an affiliate product or your own product. Make sure to include a way to pay for the item you're selling so that you'll make money from sales.

How to Use an Online Keyword Research Tool

1. Spend some time surfing the web and looking at other sites in the same field to learn about the keywords you choose to research. Review the keywords used by the highest ranking sites to begin building your list of possible keywords.

2. Use the online keyword research tool of your choice and input one keyword at a time to get related keyword suggestions. Build a list of related keywords. You are looking for not only the keywords that are within your field, but also the keywords that people search most often. Write down the most popular keywords in your field.

3. Compare the number of sites using your keyword with the number of times your keyword is being used in searches. This is called the KEI, or keyword effectiveness index. The higher the KEI, the better the keyword. Not all online keyword research tools will give you the KEI. You may need to do your own additional research to get an estimate.

4. Begin using keywords to develop your website once you know which keywords being used the most and with which sites you feel you can compete.
